Trying to lose weight over the holidays before you run into those high school friends back home, the ex-boyfriend who hasn’t seen you in 20 years, or the crotchety old relative who said you’d never amount to much? Fuggetaboutid! Give yourself the ultimate gift of self-love this season and revel in the ribald revelry of the season with some gusto, acceptance, and balance. Being “thin” was not always in. Being healthy and active (with good posture* See our series on the subject. You are welcome!) is always in style. And hotter than mulled cider!
Health and beauty are inside jobs! Body image and a “perfect physique” are matters of perspective, culture, history, and whatever the mass media tells us.
Can you say “Mixed Messages?” Don’t believe us? Take a brief tour through past wistful wishes for va-va-voom figures. Look at what people were willing to do to achieve that “look du decade.”
Don’t make us talk about you years from now! Our gift to you as we wrap up — no, not gifts. We are not that organized! — Work the look you already have. Embrace it; Look it in the eye and say “Ell-bees – you and I are going into the New Year together baby, guilt- and stress-free!”
Whoa now you Vixens, Dashers, and Red Nosed sorts! Don’t go overboard — or is that “oversleigh?” We said give yourself some body-lovin’ self-acceptance while staying active, not plunk down your hiney so finey!

Great article I think it’s really funny many people think that skinny is more beautiful until they are thin them selfs or when they know someone who is to thin, after they think different about. I think it’s good to be thin but not to thin because that’s not very attractive. Thanks for sharing!

Good posture takes off 10 pounds in two seconds. Furthermore, lots of guys prefer women who aren’t stick figures and who like to dive into food and drink with gusto. This is great healthy advice…even better from someone who knows how to use Fuggetaboutid in a sentence.

So true. We harp upon posture (er, gently remind) all the time. And I’ve yet to meet a guy who likes stick-thin women. They do seem to prefer something they can hold onto without fear of injury! I’d love to hear from the guys on this. I think the ad industry has sold us a bill of goods!

Thank you Carrie. We’d love to think we’re wise Mostly we just have a lot of experience working with people trying their best and being happiest when their idea of “best” is within themselves, not a magazine.

God I’m old enough (63) to remember those “95 pound weakling advertisements” . Funny how times change and the perceptions we have of our bodies change as well.

This is scary true, I wonder how we will look and perhaps more interestingly how we will “supposed” to look in 50 years time!

In 50 years I think I will look quite old. And I probably won’t care what the ads say!

I wonder what we’ll think of the ads that were run when we were young. I still laugh at some of the ways ads have changed – remember how it was Sugar Smacks, then Honey Smacks, then Honey Puffs? Things change according to the cultural winds, that’s for sure.

Love the Stella! Isn’t it funny how things have changed over the years as to what is pretty and what is acceptable?

Well, the tapeworm thing is definitely scary. Even scarier is that some people still do it. And I just read a research review that examined whether tape worms (certain ones; not the ones that kill you) might actually have some disease-protective aspect. Ick.

Eating Healthy food is the best thing. If you work out properly and according to the required diet, you are going good. This is my opinion. Thanks a lot especially for sharing old photos. I really like it!
