Planking Meets Fitness Plank

Kymberly Williams-Evans, MA and Alexandra Williams, MA

The art of planking is to lie horizontally across any object or the ground with arms by your side, aiming to occur in daring situations – Urban dictionary.

Guess what?! Planking and a fitness plank are not the same thing. For example, if it’s Hugh Hefner and the Playboy bunnies, that’s planking:

Is Hugh dead or planking?

Dude, you need Viagra! And coffee!

Hugh is supervising bunny planking

Choosing your dessert for the night Hugh?

Actually, that looks kind of fun. Maybe I’ll try it. Gotta find a good location, though. Then I will focus on demonstrating the wrong and right way to do a fitness plank.

Hmm, obviously my son wants to be JUST LIKE ME when he grows up!

I miss you two! I would love to hear some feedback from this years show when you have a moment.

I have around twenty plank exercises that I use in my classes….It would be great to fun and fit together some time….

You have 20 exercises for plank? I only have about 5. Please do a video so I can steal your ideas. This year’s fitness convention was excellent. We even did the only interview with Louis van Amstel. Kymberly was so delighted. Please apply for next year so we can take your classes!

Oh, no! I recently did my own “how to plank” video. Except it could also be construed as “looking for a date.” I may run it soon. :-)

Please do run it. And give us the high sign on FB so we can post a link to it. Who knows? Maybe we’ll all get date offers! Or pooped on by pigeons.

Hmm, I did not know that. That’s my teenager planing in South Lake Tahoe. And it’s for real not PhotoShopped! You’ve got me quite curious now about that type of hypnosis!

Planking sounds great fun but I don’t hink I could manage in my wheelchair! LOL :) I recently attended a residential pain management course at a local hospital that did me an enormous amount of good. My problem is how to stay motivated now I’m home. I just can’t seem to make myself do the exercises I know I should be doing. Any tips on how to stay motivated?

I love planking, I was laughing when I saw the beginning of the video. I randomly like to plank, especially when I am at my mother in law’s house, she get’s confused every time I do it, and I cannot ever stop laughing.

There is also another form of plank besides for regular fitness plank, there is a gymnastic plank, which is done hanging on a rope.

Thanks for sharing this article. I am a Massage Therapist and I have believed in the importance of physical activity. I now have some research to back my rationale to implement at least 20 minutes per day of aerobic activity. I am going to search for some supplemental to jogging, jump ropes and kids aerobic dance dvd’s so that I advise my clients to try incorporating exercise as a lifelong habit! I love the ideas of using stationary bikes, dance dance revolution type games etc. Thanks so much for your blog.

    Haha Love it!!
My crazy idea for planking would be with a building site with one of those measuring bubble thingie stack to the back.
That way you can know not only that the surface is straight but also that your back is neutral.. 2 for 1
